Raj Virdi embodies the visionary co-founder of a new Canadian university wrestling program. A former two-time CIS (U SPORTS) champion in 2009–2010 at Simon Fraser University where he served as team captain, Virdi also won two team championships. A three-time senior Canadian national medallist, he built a résumé of athletic excellence at SFU.
Named assistant coach at the SFU wrestling program in 2021, Virdi brought his expertise back to his alma mater. More significantly, together with Arjan Singh Bhullar, he co-founded and fully funded the wrestling program at the University of the Fraser Valley in 2014, building an emerging institution of Canadian wrestling. High-performance head coach for BC Wrestling, Virdi oversees technical development at the provincial level.
A Team Canada coach at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Virdi represents Surrey, British Columbia. His contributions span the provincial, university and Olympic levels, exemplifying a commitment to the systematic development of wrestling in Canada.
