Career

Marty Calder (born January 25, 1967 in St. Catharines, Ontario) reigns as the most decorated wrestling coach in Canadian university sport. An athlete himself — seven-time senior national champion, five-time OUA champion and four-time CIAU champion at Brock — he began his tenure as co-coach in 2001 and completed his 24th season as head coach of the Badgers men’s and women’s programs.

A remarkable record: 28 university national titles (16 men, 12 women) and 39 provincial titles (18 men, 21 women), establishing Brock as Canadian university wrestling’s dynasty. An impressive roster of athletes he has guided: three-time Olympic medallist Tonya Verbeek, World Champion Jessica MacDonald, Olympian Michelle Fazzari, and numerous national champions. Outstanding honours: 44 Coach of the Year awards, including 13 in men’s and eight in women’s U SPORTS.

Inducted into the Wrestling Canada Lutte Hall of Fame (2017), Calder embodies long-term mentorship and systematic excellence. His approach to athlete development shapes the culture of Canadian university wrestling.
