Career
Guivi “Gia” Sissaouri, 1996 Olympic silver medallist and 2001 World Champion, reinvented himself as a development leader. After an exceptional competitive career (three Olympics, multiple world medals), Sissaouri served as national head coach for the men’s team at Wrestling Canada until March 2016, shaping the national high-performance strategy.
Systematic work with junior and senior athletes, Sissaouri focuses on long-term development strategies. In parallel, he appeared as a mixed martial arts coach on the TV series “The Ultimate Fighter” alongside Georges St-Pierre, amplifying his pedagogical reach. Currently International Development Coach for Wrestling Canada, Sissaouri oversees international coaching initiatives and the technical expansion of the federal program.
His legacy reflects a successful transition from athletic excellence to coaching influence, establishing a durable model of mentorship for future generations of Canadian wrestlers.
