Biography
Nishan Preet Singh Randhawa embodies the new generation of Canadian heavyweight wrestlers of Punjabi descent. Born December 5, 1997 in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Randhawa has quickly established himself at the top of international competition. An athlete at Simon Fraser University, where he developed his skills at 97 kg freestyle.
A remarkable 2016 accomplishment: he became the first wrestler in 25 years to win both the junior and senior Canadian national titles in the same year. Gold medallist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (Birmingham) at 97 kg, Randhawa confirmed his status as a major contender. He added bronze at the 2023 Pan American Games (Santiago) at 97 kg — a result that brings him closer to an Olympic podium.
Although he did not qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics despite competing at the world and Pan American qualifiers, Randhawa remains a rising force whose trajectory points to further major success. Of Sikh Punjabi heritage, he contributes to the visibility of these communities in Canadian sporting excellence.
