Biography

Michelle Cristina Fazzari (July 10, 1987 – August 30, 2024) embodies persistent excellence and resilience in the face of adversity. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Fazzari rose rapidly to the top of the women’s freestyle world rankings, reaching a career-best of No. 2 in the world. A Brock University athlete, she won three consecutive CIS (U SPORTS) titles.

An impressive résumé: gold medals at the Pan American Championships (2014, 2017) and the World Cup (2013), gold at the 2013 Francophone Games, and gold at the Matteo Pellicone Tournament. Rounding out the picture: silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2012 World Cup, bronze at the 2017 World Championships. Qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games as an Olympian.

In 2024 Fazzari was inducted into the Wrestling Canada Lutte Hall of Fame in recognition of her enduring excellence. Tragically, she died of cancer on August 30, 2024 at age 37, leaving a legacy of inspiration as a “champion on and off the mat,” according to her family.
