Biography

Martine Dugrenier ranks among Quebec’s greatest wrestlers, with an exceptional world-level record. Born June 12, 1979 in Laval, Dugrenier began her athletic career as an artistic gymnast until age 19 before turning to wrestling. She won her first national title barely six months after seriously taking up wrestling training.

Three-time World Champion (2008, 2009, 2010) at 67 kg, Dugrenier is also an eight-time Canadian national champion, with her last title in 2011. She represented Canada twice at the Olympics, finishing fifth on each occasion (2004, 2012). Between 2005 and 2007 she won three consecutive silver medals at the World Championships.

A Concordia graduate with a specialisation in sport physiotherapy, Dugrenier teaches at Vanier College and coaches at the Montreal YMHA Elite Wrestling Club. Inducted into the Concordia University Sports Hall of Fame in 2019, she was forced to end her competitive career due to an arm injury. She also serves as Executive Director of the Fédération de Lutte Olympique du Québec (FLOQ).
