Biography

Lyndsay Belisle stands among the pioneers of Olympic women’s wrestling, competing at the sport’s first-ever Olympic tournament in 2004. Born October 1, 1977 in Hazelton, British Columbia, Belisle trained at the prestigious Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club under Mike Jones.

A specialist in the lightest weight classes (48–51 kg), Belisle won silver medals at two major continental tournaments: the 2003 Pan American Games (Santo Domingo) and the 2006 World Championships (Guangzhou). Her greatest achievement was qualifying for the Athens 2004 Olympics in the inaugural year of women’s Olympic wrestling. Though she did not reach the podium in Athens, she distinguished herself as a world-class international athlete.

Belisle long coached and competed for the Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club, becoming an ambassador for the sport’s development in Canada. Inducted into the Wrestling Canada Lutte Hall of Fame in 2023, she leaves a legacy as a pioneer and mentor for the generations that followed.
