Biography

Justina Di Stasio embodies the long Olympic journey that finally paid off at Paris 2024 after nearly fifteen years of dedication. Of Italian and Cree heritage (Norway House Cree Nation, Manitoba), born in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Di Stasio represents a complex and grounded identity. She became more visible in Indigenous community engagement during her career.

Twice missing Olympic qualification (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020), she built the credentials of a 2018 World Champion (72 kg), 2019 Pan American Games champion (Lima, 76 kg) and 2022 Commonwealth Games champion (Birmingham, 76 kg). Her qualification for Paris 2024 was the product of progressive excellence, culminating in a twelfth-place finish despite the challenges.

Stepping away during the COVID-19 pandemic to begin a teaching career, Di Stasio discovered a second calling. After retiring from competition in 2024, she began the process of certifying as a wrestling coach. Her legacy reflects perseverance and Indigenous pride in sporting excellence.
