Biography

Doug Yeats is a legend of Canadian Olympic wrestling, with four consecutive Olympic appearances in Greco-Roman. Born November 1, 1957 in Montreal, Yeats dominated the national and international scene for two decades. He also qualified for the 1980 Games but was unable to compete because of the Canadian boycott.

Representing Canada at the 1976 (Montreal), 1984 (Los Angeles), 1988 (Seoul) and 1992 (Barcelona) Olympics, Yeats set a record of consistency and longevity at the highest level. A Greco-Roman specialist, he earned a reputation as a versatile wrestler capable of competing across several weight classes. His excellence was recognised with induction into the Wrestling Canada Lutte Hall of Fame in 2001.

Father of Dorothy Yeats, herself an elite wrestler who competed at the 2016 Games, Doug passed a passion for the sport down through his family. He remains a revered figure in Canadian Olympic history, embodying determination and dedication to wrestling.
