Biography
David Zilberman extends his family’s wrestling legacy as an elite athlete. Born December 6, 1982, Zilberman represented Canada at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the heavyweight class (96 kg freestyle), finishing fourteenth. A two-time Canadian national champion, he compiled significant international results.
During his career he won a bronze medal at the Pan American Championships (2003, 84 kg) and a silver at the FISU World University Championships (2004, 84 kg). In 2005 he won the Canada Cup and took silver at the Commonwealth Championships. An athlete of the Montreal Wrestling Club, Zilberman was coached by his father, Victor Zilberman — a Quebec coaching legend — and by Robert Moore.
After his competitive career, Zilberman became head coach of the wrestling program at Concordia University and also teaches at Vanier College. Known for a coaching approach focused on personal growth and long-term goals rather than short-term wins, he runs the Montreal Wrestling Club with rigour and sharp technical mentorship.
